Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
On Broadway
Director: John Tiffany
Playwright: Jack Thorne
Role: Scorpius Malfoy
I am currently playing Scorpius Malfoy in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, alongside Emmet Smith as Albus Potter, John Skelley as Harry Potter, and Tom Felton as Draco Malfoy. This mindboggling journey continues to be the greatest honor of my life, and you can come check us out this year at the Lyric Theater.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
First National Broadway Tour
Director: John Tiffany
Playwright: Jack Thorne
Role: Scorpius Malfoy
I was on the road playing Scorpius in The Cursed Child's first ever National Tour. I was chosen to be the first actor, in collaboration with director John Tiffany, to figure out the new version of this beloved character: a version that is now being played all over the world.
“Close, expertly leaning into Scorpius’ outsized reactions and ample enthusiasm, provides extended periods of comedic relief. Smith, as the rebellious and moody Albus, is a rational foil to Scorpius’ restless energy. With remarkable chemistry, both actors are responsible for much of the play’s emotional core, crafting a strong, believable bond between two unlikely friends.”

12 Elephants
The Tank (New York City)
Director: Megan Higley and Aidan Close
Playwright: Megan Higley
Role: Teddy
This two-hander, born out of passion and assembled together without a budget, was a lightning in a bottle. With a short run in a small theater, 12 Elephants had nothing but its words and its actors to bring its devastating, intimate story to life.

Incels and Other Myths (NY Premiere)
New York Theatre Festival
Director: Jamey Miller
Playwright: Ally Sass
Role: Avery
This triumphant play was taken to New York with a new creative team and vision, but with many of the original cast. The new, shorter version of the script shot like an emotional bullet through its runtime.

This fully produced, professionally run sitcom was the first of its kind at Boston University: a historic collaboration between its School of Theatre and the College of Communication's Film & TV department.

"Lil Bub, played by audience favorite Aidan Close (CFA '23), is the energetic wannabe rapper who keeps running out of rhymes."

Once
Joan and Edgar Booth Theatre
Director: Shamus
Playwright: Edna Walsh
Music/Lyrics: Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova
Role: Švec
Playing in Boston University's premiere theater, this production was the event of its season. Each actor played multiple instruments in order to bring this heart-wrenching musical to life (the drum kit, guitar, and bodhran in my case).

Timon of Athens
Royal Academy of Dramatic Art
Director: Gary Lagden
Playwright: William Shakespeare
Role: Flavius
Caroline Robson, an NYU London professor of British Literature, said this of the show: "I had always thought [Timon of Athens] an unlovable and frankly unperformable play within Shakespeare's oeuvre, but quite frankly the energy, verve, and passion that each of you brought to the stage under Gary's superlative direction was simply enthralling."

Incels and Other Myths (World Premiere)
Boston Playwrights' Theatre
Director: Erica Terpening-Romeo
Playwright: Ally Sass
Role: Avery
After originating the role in a staged reading nearly a year prior, I was lucky enough to bring Avery to life in the world premiere of this brilliant take on exploring identity, masculinity, and growing up in the digital era.

"I particularly liked Aidan Close’s effervescent, ranged performance as Avery."

Much Ado About Nothing
Prague Shakespeare Company
Director: Jim and Carolyn Johnson
Playwright: William Shakespeare
Role: Claudio
Guy Roberts, the artistic head of PSC, came up to me after the performance and said that I was "the only Claudio [he] didn't want to punch in the face." Maybe the best compliment I've ever received.
